Renewable solar energy, wind energy, hydro-electric power, tidal power, geothermal and the biomass produced – are essential alternative to fossil fuels.
All renewables except tidal and geothermal sources are in fact derived from solar energy, the Sun being the main source of energy to Earth, the source that generates all the biological and meteorological processes.
Using these sources we can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions resulting from production and consumption of energy from conventional sources.
In order to achieve the target of 20% energy consumption from renewable resources (of the total energy consumed) by 2020, the EU intends to focus its efforts to the electricity, heating, cooling and biofuels.
